New Scholarship Available to Utica High School Grads
Thanks to a generous bequest from Glen E. Smith, scholarships for graduates of Utica High School will be available for the first time in 2013 through the Harold W. Smith Family Fund. Applications are due March 22, 2013, and may be downloaded on the Grant and Scholarship Applications link of the Community Foundation website.
The scholarships will be awarded by the Community Foundation on a financial need basis with preference given to Utica High School graduates who have completed at least one-half of the courses required for a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or business.
Glenn Smith was a second generation local farmer, who was a 1963 graduate of Utica High School and who grew up on his family farm on Bell Church Road outside of Utica. After graduating from Ohio State University in 1967 and serving in the U.S. Army, he pursued a career in business in the Columbus area. He later retired to the family farm. His parents were the late Harold W. Smith, a farmer, and Ethel Smith, a long time employee of the Post Office.
